About Jess Bury - Owner/Master Stylist

How it all began…

My mother always told me as a little girl I would always be doing someone’s hair; whether it was a friend or family member, I always enjoyed it and told her that’s what I wanted to do when I grew up.

Since I loved doing it so much, I got a job, naturally, at a hair salon down the street from my childhood home. I began working there at the age of 17 as a shampoo girl (aka Hairstylist Assistant). I worked there for the better part of 10 years; watching and learning from Master Hairstylists and Colour Technicians. I felt confident and prepared to take the next step in my journey and decided to go to hair school to become a licensed Hairstylist. As of 2007, I earned my Diploma from Algonquin College, acquired my Ontario Hairstyling Licence and began working on clients; applying root touch-ups and blow-dries to highlights and cuts.

I then moved on to another salon, as a hairstylist, working on my very own clientele. It allowed me to be more creative with my client (instead of being told what to do) and doing the same thing time-in and time-out! I absolutely loved working with the client from consultation to the finishing touches.

In order to follow my dreams and aspirations I felt the need to make sure my skills and techniques were up to par with modern styles; therefore, I found myself travelling to New York City to attend the TONI & GUY™ 'Modern Classics' cutting course, as well as upgraded many of my colouring, cutting and styling techniques through Aveda™, Wella™, Paul Mitchell® and more.

After attending these academies, I knew I had to make a life changing decision...I asked myself “Where do I go from here?

Once again, I decided to go back to school to be MY OWN boss...working for someone else was not cutting it! No pun intended!

I graduated the Small Business Management and Entrepreneurship Program as of December 2013, as well as gaining a full education about how to run a business properly, I also left with a complete, viable business plan that I will always be able to refer back to and revise as Hair by Jess grows.

Hair by Jess is well on its way to becoming THE destination hair salon in Barrhaven:)

My commitment to you!

I believe strongly that hair is a big part of our self-esteem/confidence! It gives you that extra little push in the morning, let's face it...we all need to say "I'm great and I look fabulous!"

Being able to recreate what a hairstylist does in the salon isn't easy, therefore it is my job to make sure it's just as easy for you to do your own hair everyday, a style that works for you!
